The two 16-piece big bands, directed by Bob Waner, plus featured vocalist, Linda Greilich, will be presenting the best in big band jazz. The concert is an opportunity for our community to enjoy music played by noted musicians, many of which have devoted their lives to keeping the big band sound alive. Linda Greilich, will be adding her unique vocal stylings to the concert that features entertaining soloists playing the songs you remember. Tin Pan Alley is the Theme for this concert. Tin Pan Alley is the name given to the collection of New York Music Publishers and songwriters who dominated the popular music of the United States in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The name originally referred to a specific place: West 28th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, and a plaque on the sidewalk on 28th Street between Broadway and Sixth commemorates it. This block is now considered to be part of Manhattan's NoMad neighborhood and the Flower District. A Big Band is a type of musical ensemble that originated in the United States and is associated with jazz and the Swing Era typically consisting of rhythm, brass, and woodwind instruments totaling approximately 12 to 25 musicians. A standard 17-piece instrumentation evolved in the big-bands during the '30's and '40s. This instrumentation consists of five saxophones (most often two altos, two tenors, and one baritone), four trumpets, four trombones (often including one bass trombone) and a four-piece rhythm section (composed of drums, acoustic bass or electric bass, piano and guitar). This evening of music brings back this almost lost art. So, come down and enjoy a great night of music and fun with the Golden Eagles Big Band under the direction of Mr. Robert Waner. Music At The Center is a fundraiser for The DVAC and its programs. Guests receive two glasses of wine (or other beverage), appetizer, access to the current gallery exhibition as well as the concert. Doors open at 6:00 pm with the concert beginning at 6:30 pm. Log ontowww.thedvac.org for more information.Items Not Allowed
