DOWNEAST FIDDLERS
JAMBOREE
Saturday, May 14th - 7:30 PM
Be sure to join us for the perennial favorite foot-stomping fun of Maine’s champion fiddlers, hosted by Old Grey Goose, and featuring Don Roy Trio, Maise Newell and Family, and Louie Matthieu!
Old Grey Goose plays old-time dance tunes on a variety of acoustic instruments; sings songs of love, work, diversity, and achievement from the vast repertoire of American folk history.
Don Roy is a champion fiddler with depth in many styles of fiddling. Hailing from roots deep in the Maritimes and Quebec, the Roy’s musical passion lies with the French Canadian tradition followed closely by Celtic music. Cindy Roy, also a member of the former Maine French Fiddlers, is well known for her step dancing piano accompaniment which is among the best in New England.
Maisie Newell has been playing fiddle since she was five years old while growing up with fiddle players for her mom and dad. She has traveled the world learning fiddle styles from many different cultures and as now settled back to a farming and music life Maine. Along with her husband and young family Maisie will perform a variety of classic fiddle tunes and songs.
Louie Mathieu is a country music and bluegrass legend in Maine. His fiddling father Lucien was an inspiration to all the fiddlers in Maine and Louie is "a real chip off the old block." He has performed in Carnegie Hall and on Prairie Home Companion with the Maine French Fiddlers and is a multi-instrumentalist and singer of old-time country songs. Louie and Lucien are both in the Maine Country Music Hall of fame. Louie will be joined by his wife Maureen.
This gathering promises to be a feel-good evening for the whole family!
