Montford Park Players Description
Shakespeare’s brutal revenge tragedy - This one is NOT suitable for younger children! We recommend 16+ with parent.
Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare’s first tragedy. It is a bloody and brutal tale of ambition, revenge, and madness. It is considered by some to be the most grisly tragedy ever written. There are 14 killings, 6 severed body parts, a rape, a live burial, and cannibalism. An atrocity is committed approximately every 90 lines or so. There is, in fact, so much outrageous, revenge-fueled violence in the play that it becomes ridiculous at times, almost comical. It is a wonderful and rare chance to see Shakespeare as a young, ambitious playwright, as he sets the stage for later plays, such as Macbeth. This production is not suitable for younger children. Bring a picnic and your favorite beverage or enjoy local beers and wine from Shakespeare's Tavern. Dog-friendly! Sponsored by White Duck Taco Shop! Additional Information
