MCC Jazz Ensemble and The Valley Jazz Cooperative Description
Jazz Concert Members feature MCC Students and Community Members
The Valley Jazz Cooperative is an educational initiative of Music Serving the Word Ministries. Directed by Russell Schmidt, the Valley Jazz Cooperative focuses on the continued development of two elements that have longstanding importance within Music Serving the Word: educational outreach and improvised arts. The initial VJC program is the East Valley Jazz Cooperative, which launched in March 2016. The EVJC is a talented group of high school and junior high school musicians. They develop creative skills together in jazz ensemble and combo settings. EVJC members also receive valuable instruction on various, related topics, including theory and improvisation. The dual goal for participants is to develop artistic gifts in ways that are personally meaningful, then go back into their own communities (churches, schools, arts festivals) to share those skills with others. Performing Arts Center - Lap Policy While most performances are suitable for the entire family, some programs may contain adult themes/language. Please use discretion and consider the other audience members when deciding whether to bring infants and small children to a performance. If you have question, please contact the Box Office. Small infants and children 2 and under that are seating on a lap and not occupying a seat are free. Any child more than 2 years of age requires a ticket when attending the MCC Performing Arts Center.
