Description
Bohemia, part of the Czech Republic is a land with a rich history and prominent composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, and Bedřich Smetana. Symphony of the Vines is joined by the Czech-American Horn Duo, Steve Gross and Jiří Havlík. Dr. Gross is a former member of the Atlanta Symphony, National Symphony, and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and currently heads the Wind, Brass and Percussion program at UCSB. Mr. Havlík is a member of the Czech Philharmonic, and a renowned conductor and composer. The program features Bohemian music from the classical, romantic, and contemporary periods. The Duo performs the world premiere of a work by Daniel Baldwin, and a classical era concerto of Josef Reicha. The Symphony plays the romantic Idyll for Strings by Janáček, and 20th century composer Bohuslav Martinů’s Sinfonia Concertante, featuring oboe, bassoon, violin & cello soloists.
