Description
Prior to copyright laws, composers often “borrowed” music written by others, borrowed either in identical music settings or “improved” in new settings. With copyright laws in place, composers gave credit to the originator of “improved” pieces. This idea has been expanded in recent years with composers working from historic pieces, giving credit to the originator of the works but using contemporary musical language. We will explore works by Hildegard von Bingen/Frank Ferko; Henry Purcell/Jan Sandström; and others. |
