Join (half of) The Workshop NYC for an evening of show tunes, sequins, and sass, in which we answer the question “What if we put on a musical theater cabaret where boys sang girl songs and girls sang boy songs?”
Picture this: a young boy looks in the mirror, hairbrush in hand. He takes a breath, lifts the hairbrush to his mouth, and begins to sing: “Midnight, not a sound from the pavement…” He lowers the hairbrush, eyes cast down, glimmering upon realizing that, no matter how beautifully he sings, he may never take the stage as the Grizabella he was meant to be.
Now, picture that boy as a man. He probably helped put together this show.
Join the Workshop’s primary musical theater enthusiasts as they step out of the a cappella arc and into the spotlight, crooning their favorite classic and contemporary musical theater hits reimagined with a gender-bending twist! Backed by a piano and hopefully looking fabulous, your favorite Workshop sopranos/altos Lauren Liria, Cara Klewin, and Claire Tomes will belt out songs intended for tenor and bass singers, while tenors Zachary Benedetto, William Horton, and Jon Basla tackle soprano and alto tunes.
The Workshop NYC is an a cappella group based in Manhattan. Founded in January, 2012, they regularly perform a range of popular music at venues throughout New York. They never perform show tunes… until now.
Please note this is a decidedly **NON-A-CAPPELLA*** performance. Sorry to disappoint, but you’ll like it anyway.
