Juliana -- The Beginning, is about a group of gays and lesbians living in NYC during World War II.
Actors perform chapters from the novel, Juliana (Volume 1: 1941-1944) by Vanda. Vanda’s novel, Juliana (Vol. 1, 1941-1944), is the first in a series of novels about the same LGBT characters living through forthcoming decades of LGBT history.
Volume 2: Something More Fragile Than Hope—The Post War Years (1945-1955) is in the works. As a playwright Vanda has received numerous honors, among them an Edward Albee Fellowship. Her play, Vile Affections, published by Original Works was a finalist for a National Lambda Award.
The Juliana Project is composed of a group of actors, a director and a writer who began performing the novel at Stonewall Inn In December 2014, In March 2015 they moved to the Duplex where they performed the whole novel chapter by chapter until its end in July 2016. In summer, 2016, the Juliana Project was invited to The Kennedy Center where they performed a compilation of scenes from the book.
