Theatre on the Bay Description
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown: the Musical by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis kicks off TOB’s Season 52. In a dystopian city suffering a 20-year water shortage, private toilets are illegal. Caldwell P. Cladwell’s Urine Good Company controls the public amenities where the poor must pay to relieve themselves. Rebels who go illegally get the maximum sentence: a trip to Urinetown! When the poor can’t take any more, they kidnap Cladwell’s daughter Hope to break his grip on their city, and their bladders. This timely comedy about a society controlled by those who profit at others’ expense will make audiences think about what it takes to stand up to unprincipled power, and what could happen if we don't. |
