Abel Garcia and Jaime Soria will perform Dos Guitarras on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018, at the Diamond Valley Arts Center, located at 123 N. Harvard St., Hemet Ca 92543. Following the success of last year’s concert, we expect this one to draw an even bigger crowd, and for good reason. Doors open at 2:30pm with the concert starting at 3:00pm. Abel Garcia is a product of Paracho, Michoacan, the guitar capital of Mexico, and arguably the world. His parents Abel and Veronica are both guitar builders and his father, also Abel, is one the most highly respected Luthiers in Mexico who has done workshops on various aspects of guitar making and antique instrument replication all over Mexico and Europe. The younger Abel grew up in this intense classical guitar environment, starting guitar study early, and with his precocious talent he was able to enter competitions at a young age, winning many age categories early. He won the advanced category in Paracho in 2016 (Normally for ages 23 to 30) at age 18! He began his studies at CIDEG (Centro para Investigación y Desarrolllo de la Guitarra) in Paracho, continued in the Conservatory de las Rosas in Morelia where he was awarded his degree. He has taken master classes with many world-famous guitarists including John Williams, Pepe Romero, David Russel and Zoren Dukic to name just a few. He has competed and performed all over Mexico and Europe as well as in China. He has won many national and international awards. Jaime Soria is one of the most prominent Mexican guitarists of his generation. He has toured extensively as a soloist and in music ensembles in numerous cities and festivals of Mèxico as well as United States, Italy, Spain and Belgium. He was born in Zamora Mèxico, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music at the National Conservatory in Mexico City, and with the Master’s degree at Escuela Nacional de Música de la UNAM. He has taken many master classes over many years. He has won awards in competitions in Mexico and Europe, including the advanced category in Paracho in 2002. He has taught at Conservatorio del Estado de México in Toluca, and the Centro para la Investigación y Desarrollo de la Guitarra (CIDEG) in Paracho, Michoacán, also at Conservatorio Nacional de Música in México City, where his students have won more than 60 prizes in competitions. Currently he teaches guitar, chamber music and guitar literature at Escuela de Iniciación Artística No. 2 (México City) and Escuela de Bellas Artes (EBAT) in Toluca. He has released 6 recordings to date. This concert is a part of DVACs Culture Series and is a fundraiser for The DVAC and its programs. Doors open at 2:30 pm with the concert beginning at 3:00pm.
