Description
ART AT THE
CENTER will have an Opening Reception on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m. at the Diamond Valley Arts Center (DVAC), 123 N. Harvard St., in Hemet’s
historic downtown. ART AT THE CENTER, on display May and June 2019, is a
collaboration with A.R.T. (Appreciation, Recreation, and Teaching) from the
Four Seasons residential community and the Sierra Dawn Estates Porcelain
Artists.
Artists at A.R.T. have met and shared art, talent, and ideas for many years with Four Seasons’ residents in west Hemet. Their affordable classes in various painting mediums and techniques are taught by instructors Lois Stipp and Royce McHugh Jerman. The appreciation and recreation components are art related activities including trips to area art museums to see and discuss art. Entries in the current exhibit at DVAC are paintings in the oil, acrylic and watercolor mediums as well as photography printed on metal and metallic paper which create unusual special effects. Also representing the wide range of artistic mediums are the rustic hand-built slab ceramics by Ivan McFadden. These eclectic art forms on display are well worth seeing. Sierra Dawn Estates Porcelain Painter Artists, of different levels of experience and talent, have met for over 20 years. These artist are displaying a sample of their realistic and abstract paintings framed as wall art, unframed tiles on easels, and the familiar classic porcelain plates and tea sets. The intricately painted fine porcelain has an effect unattainable on paper or canvas. Porcelain painting’s characteristic patina is created by layering paint; each layer requiring its own firing from as little as three to as many as 12. Paint is slowly layered starting with the lightest color first, careful not to paint too thick which could cause popping. President of the class, Therona Farvar, and instructor, Marcella Kerr agree, “The purpose of the group is to have fun. It is very gratifying!” These aesthetically pleasing pieces of art by Sierra Dawn’s skilled painters are a must see this spring on your next stroll down Hemet’s historic downtown. DVAC is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the art exhibits are always FREE and appropriate for children.
