Program Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) String Quartet in F Major opus 18 number 1 Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Piano Quintet in F minor opus 34 Pianist Nicholas Harris, a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London and the Yehudi Menuhin School, has enjoyed success both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He has participated in some of the world’s foremost music courses, including the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove, the International Holland Music Sessions, and the Banff Piano Masterclasses. In 2014 he toured as soloist with the Amserfoorts Jeugdorkest, performing Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand, and, most recently, performed with his London-based piano trio at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam. See recent recording here: British violinist Elisabeth Perry is presently the first concertmaster of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and was concertmaster of the Deutsche Kammerakademie from 1985 to 1990. She was in the first class of pupils at the Yehudi Menuhin School, and continued her studies at the Julliard School. Renowned for her musicianship, she has been a welcome guest soloist with the London Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Violist Richard Wolfe studied violin with Aaron Shapinsky and Dorothy deLay and graduated from the Universtiy of Cincinnati, where he studied with Walter Levin. He spent five years in Israel as a member of the Israel Chamber Orchestra, where he became interested in the viola. He settled in the Netherlands in 1983, and has been principal violist with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra since 1986. Peter Gelfand has served as principle cellist with the Symphony Silicon Valley since 2003, and was principle cellist with the San Jose Symphony from 1985 through to its final season in 2002, and from 1985-1988 was also a member of the St. Louis Symphony. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with legendary cellist Janos Starker. Cellist Adelle-Akiko Kearns is currently principle cellist of the Santa Rosa and Merced Symphonies. She studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Julliard School and made her New York recital debut at Carnegie’s Weill Hall in 2008. As a chamber musician, Ms. Kearns has collaborated with the Julliard String Quartet, and as a soloist has appeared with the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Julliard Conductors’ Orchestra, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra. Violinist Alex van der Veen graduated from Bard Conservatory’s 5-year, dual degree program in the Spring of 2019 with Bachelor’s degrees in economics and violin performance, having studied with Daniel Phillips. An avid chamber musician, he has spent many summers attending various festivals, including Music@Menlo, Madeline Island Chamber Music, Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Quartet Program, and Decoda’s Chamber Music Institute. As an orchestral musician, Alex has played under David Robertson in the National Youth Orchestra and has served as concertmaster in various orchestras including the Bard Conservatory Orchestra, Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artist Orchestra, and the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. |
