The show was written by an 86 year old playwright, who wrote the Story, Book, Music, and Lyrics. He likes to say, "Old age isn't a sickness. Don't treat it as one."
His wife asked him to play the melody he improvised yesterday, on the piano. He couldn't. She urged him to write his melodies down. He did, and found he had an innate ability to write lyrics. The story came to him at 5:00 AM one morning. He got up, wrote it out, and thus was born, Second Story Man.
Second Story Man And The Secret of Success is a Runyunesque fable about a thief, a "Second Story Man." He hopes to make a big score so that he can drive a fancy car, dress well and be a good time Charlie. If he can do that, he'll know he's a success. His wife, who would never have married him, had she known he was a thief, threatens to leave him unless he stops thieving. He owes a loan shark $50,000 and will be physically hurt or killed if he stops, and is unable to pay the loan shark. He is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. SECOND STORY MAN AND THE SECRET OF SUCCESS
It's a comedy, so it all works out, and in the process he gains a new understanding of success. Great tunes. You'll go home humming. Lots of belly laughs.
Don't miss it. A musical Gem.
