Description
Hudson Ballet Theatre's production of The Nutcracker involves Hudson Ballet, a professional ballet company based in NYC and Westchester, and Hudson Youth Ballet, a youth company consisting of dance students from throughout the Westchester and Lower Hudson Valley.
In this version of the classic tale, a group of young orphan children prepare to host an Adoption Day at their orphanage, inviting prospective parents to join them in a holiday celebration with the hopes of being adopted. Clara, one of the orphans, meets Mr. and Mrs. Plum, a couple looking to adopt a child at the orphanage's Adoption Day. As all the parents in attendance present the orphans with gifts, the Plums gives a beautiful Nutcracker doll to Clara. Marie, the orphanage's bully takes the doll and the breaks it. The caretaker, Mrs. Dross, is not fond of Clara, and does all that she can to keep Clara and the Plums apart. At the end of the night, Mrs. Dross forces Mr. and Mrs. Plum to leave without adopting Clara. Later, as Clara falls asleep on the couch, her Nutcracker doll comes to life, saving her from life-size rats and a Rat Queen in an epic battle. After the battle, the Nutcracker transforms into a Prince and brings Clara to a beautiful land filled with delicious sweets. Here, to Clara's surprise, she meets Mrs. Plum, who has transformed into a beautiful Sugar Plum fairy, queen of the Land of the Sweets, and Mr. Plum, her king. After listening to the Prince and Clara's story, the Sugar Plum invites everyone to dance in celebration. When it is time to go, Clara says goodbye to her new friends and is brought back to the real world. But will she find the Plums again? You'll have to watch to find out! |
