About the composer: Charles Mingus (1922-1979), a native of Nogales, Arizona, is an important bassist, bandleader, and composer in the history of jazz. Early in his career, he gained attention as a prodigal bassist and then as a bandleader/composer. He was a proponent of collective improvisation and many of his pieces include elements of Avant-Garde and Classical influences. We hope you enjoy our selections from the library of Charles Mingus.
