ASU Music Theatre & Opera presents The Daughter of the Regiment Music by Gaetano Donizetti Libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Jean-Francois English dialogue by Ruth and Thomas Martin Directed by Dale Dreyfoos Music Direction by Brian DeMaris Donizetti's comic and endearing opera follows Marie, the adopted daughter of the 21st Regiment of the French army, who has fallen in love with Tonio, a young soldier from an enemy nation. Fortunately, the regiment accepts Tonio when they hear that he saved Marie's life. The two love each other and plan to wed, but a wrench is thrown into their plans when news about Marie's birth family arises and she must leave the regiment. Tonio resolves to rescue Marie with the aid of the other soldiers, but will he be successful? With its lovely melodies, vocal fireworks and quick wit, "La Fille du Regiment" is the perfect piece to brighten your day. Performed in French with supertitles. Dialogue will be in English.
