Description
Dye fabrics using upcycled bicycle parts and shibori techniques in natural dyes, at Make Hang in North Beach, San Francisco.
Curious? Give it a try, it will be a great time. Toil toil boil and trouble your fabric in the mad science dye labroatory at Make Hang, with seasonal vegetables and magical indigo. All workshop participants have the free opportunity to hang a piece they have made at make hang in a shibori group show and art party this December at make hang. Local, emerging textile artists in North Beach will be there getting their shibori on, and everyone is invited, but it is limited to 12 participants. Ages 10 to 100, no previous experience required, the more diverse the group, the more interesting the workshop. Workshop will be followed by a free, open to the public wine and cheese social until 9. Tuition includes two silk scarves, and some cotton fabric to play with in sustainable indigo from India and seasonal natural dyes from the farmers market in San Francisco. Participants may also bring a natural fiber garment or fabric to dye. We will explore Aline’s innovative techniques utilizing bicycle parts to tie, twist, bind, clamp, fold fabrics, inspired by Japanese shibori traditions. Get ready to get messy and make friends. At Make Hang Gallery, where we make it and we hang it! Any questions? Please don’t hesitate to contact Aline: aline@makehang.com, or 415-571-4874 It will be a blast- guaranteed good times and gorgeous fabrics. Wear: Comfortable closed toe shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting (or want to get ) artistically messy. Optional to bring: Sketches or images of shapes and textures that may inspire your unique bicycle shibori concoctions and creations. Natural fiber fabrics or a piece of clothing to dye, cotton and silk are recommended, and other fabrics may be interesting to experiment with too. Additional Information
