To continue Starr Foster Dance’s mission to collaborate with and support other artists, SFD will present SPITTING IMAGE II, a collaboration with 7 photographers to inspire the creation of new dance works. Presented at the Firehouse Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, this special event features new dance works by Artistic Director Starrene Foster and an exhibition of the selected photography.

The Firehouse Theatre is located at 1609 W. Broad Street near the corner of Lombardy & West Broad in the Fan neighborhood of Richmond. Parking is tricky so leave yourself plenty of time. Free street parking is often available on either side of Broad Street between Lombardy and Allen, and along Lombardy between Grace and Broad. Do not park in the Lowes lot. They will tow your vehicle.

It is very hard to seat late patrons, so we encourage you to come early. The bar will be open and there's plenty of lounging space.

Performances are General Admission. All the seats are fantastic! 

STARR FOSTER DANCE, founded in 2001 by Artistic Director Starrene Foster, is a critically acclaimed modern dance company which calls Richmond, Virginia its home. It has been our goal to provide Richmond audiences, as well as audiences throughout the country, with prolific and engaging productions. Each year we strive to advance our mission, offering community programs and performances nationally.

Known for creating emotionally resonant works, Foster has received numerous awards for her teaching, choreography, collaborative projects and community engagement. Foster feels strongly about creating thought provoking work that embraces the human spirit. The SFD dancers have received much praise for their superb technique and the innate sense of connectedness while executing Foster’s unique movement vocabulary.

In their quest to make the world richer with art, SFD performs regularly throughout the county and is dedicated to their mission of collaborating with all types of artists. For the last 18 years, Starr Foster Dance has produced the highly recognized Annual Mid-Atlantic Choreographers Showcase, providing more than 250 dance artists opportunities to present work. In 2010, SFD established a mentorship program which offers young dancers an opportunity to train in a professional and safe environment.
