Durham County Poets Description
Blues, Roots, Soul, Durham County Poets is a "band" in the truest sense of the word! Durham County Poets grew out of the lively music scene in Ormstown, QC, once called Durham. The five seasoned musicians, all of whom are also songwriters, work together individually and collaboratively in composing their music. Delving into a variety of styles and genres, their musical influences include a broad range, woven together to create their own authentic style. You’ll hear original, uplifting compositions from the Blues, R&B, Soul, Gospel genres that reach deep down into the soul. The group features Kevin Harvey (lead vocals), David Whyte (electric and acoustic guitars, vocals), Neil Elsmore (acoustic guitar, vocals), Carl Rufh (triple bass, that’s a double bass and a regular bass, trombone, vocals), and Rob Couture (drums, percussion). Their ‘Hand Me Down Blues’ was nominated for a Juno award and stayed on the Canadian charts for more than a year, Durham County Poets are keen to capitalise on that success with their latest album ‘Out Of The Woods’. “The Poets lay down a sweet acoustic groove that’s subtle, yet captivating. Utilizing strong players on double bass, acoustic guitar, stellar electric guitar, and percussive brushes, they gently work around Kevin Harvey’s soulful lead vocals,” Steve Tennant Medium. The Poets will get you dancing in the hallways, laughing, and feeling those blues,” Spirit of Rasputin, Ottawa. "Lead singer Kevin Harvey and his band are sonic shape shifters of the first order. Whether it's blues, folk, soul, country, gospel, or New Orleans swing, they purvey it with skill, aplomb and pure honesty." – Nate Dow, Fallout Shelter, Massachusetts |
