Description
New Opera NYC present Salon 4, an evening of Brahms Lieberslieder Walzer, Op. 52 and Schumann Spanische Liebes-Lieder, Op. 138. Salon 4, the name is driven from these two sets of art songs that are written for 4 singers with piano 4 hands accompaniment. It will be presented on April 29 and 30 at 8:00pm at the Theater at Spence School (22 E. 91st St. between Fifth and Madison Ave.) Salon 4 is a modern day interpretation of Salon culture that influenced many aspects of cultural movement in Europe in the 19th century. We are recreating the salon atmosphere in a theatre setting, underlining all the drama that goes on the lives of these characters, overlapping the music of Brahms and Schumann. There is a speculation that Brahms wrote his 'Liebeslieder Walzer' in frustration of his love for Clara Schumann’s daughter, Julie Schumann. On the other hand, Schumann wrote 'Spanische Liebes-Lieder', using poems originally written in Spanish that were translated to German, with Spanish musical flavor, but Schumann himself never had travelled to Spain! |
