Description
According to Johns Hopkins, over 28 million Americans will have an eating disorder in their lifetime. Eating disorders affect people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and socio-economic statuses. Additionally, eating disorders often carry the HIGHEST risk of death of any mental illness. Clinical mental health counselors are frequently told to refer patients with eating disorders to a specialist. Unfortunately, many areas, especially rural areas, lack counselors with the correct background and knowledge to know how to help patients with eating disorders. In an effort to equip local counselors, the University Counseling Center and the Office of Graduate Admissions at Freed-Hardeman University are pleased to host an Eating Disorder Symposium with keynote presentations by Dawn Dillion, Laurie Cooper, and Becky Mehr.
