In the annual Break, Burn, Build, students perform mixed repertory featuring new works and works-in-progress directed by faculty and guest artists, including the annual First Year Dance Project. These swift creative processes encourage makers to begin their academic years (and, for some, careers) by focusing on breaking down familiar patterns and habits; finding the sparks of new ideas; letting them burn; and then building a new work. Live art transforms in each performance and rehearsal, and viewing is an invitation to participate in that process. How do these works develop meaning? Is there dissonance? Is there ease? What is familiar? What is not? Which boundaries are broken; which ideas or images linger and burn; where are new connections constructed? |
