The NJCU Symphony of Winds and Percussion, directed by Patrick J. Burns, will present "The Beauty of Peace", a concert series of classic and modern music for wind band, in Ridgewood, Kearny, and on campus at Margaret Williams Theatre. The program will feature H. Owen Reed's groundbreaking experimental composition, Spiritual (1947), which is based on his impression of worship music in African-American churches. The piece is also believed to be the first incorporation of the bebop style in concert band music. The program will also feature Yukiko Nishimura's lush and lyric Star Ship (2003), based on an ancient Japanese legend of two lovers who meet only once per year, and Alfred Reed's epic work, To Rejoice in the Beauty of Peace (1983).
