Description
In 1983, FHU students and faculty member Winston Harless saw the need for another singing group on campus. The mission was simple — to edify and encourage Christians with the love of Christ through song. Hence the name — Sonshine Singers. The group quickly became a campus favorite, and word spread throughout the brotherhood. Within the first year, the group traveled to various congregations almost every weekend and, in subsequent years, traveled all over the United States and internationally. The Sonshine Singer’s unique style of singing familiar songs in a new and meaningful way impacted audiences and members alike. As time went on the signature closing song was selected. “God’s Family,” truly impacted those who sang it and those who heard it. No matter how many times it was performed, it moved us...reminding us of the beauty of being in His family. This year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the start of the group. On-campus activities Homecoming weekend includes Saturday morning breakfast and devotional time, lunch, and time to sing old favorites from all the iterations of the group, and culminates with a Chapel Hall singing, which will be led by various male alumni with special tributes to Lee Grantham and Keith Danley. Whether you were a member in the Winston, Keith, or Gary years, some things transcend eras and weave us all together, as there is something inherently special about singing songs of praise as a group and the bonds we forged through our performances and travel. Life is busy and full, but we do not get many opportunities this side of Heaven to, for a moment, recapture some of the best times of our lives, surrounded by those we hold most dear from special days. Clear the calendar, make the time, take the trip, and join us on Homecoming weekend at FHU. You will not regret it! — Mike Dozier ('88) For the full Homecoming schedule and more details, visit FHU.edu/Homecoming/schedule. |
