Sanjay Shantaram, Kiran Rajagopalan, Isaiah DiLore Description
Along with company dancers Dances of India's 47th Annual Performance also features guest artists Sanjay Shantaram, Artistic Director of ShivaPriya School of Dance in Bengaluru, India, and professional classical Indian dancer Kiran Rajagopalan, based in Chicago, IL. Asha Prem, Artistic Director of Dances of India, is a 2020 St. Louis Regional Arts Commission Artist Fellow and a 2018 St. Louis Visionary Award Recipient for Outstanding Teaching Artist. The second half of the show will feature our originally-scripted and narrated dance-theater production Dreams of the Dark Prince, the tale of Duryodhana, from the Indian epic The Mahabaratha. This production, written by Nartana Premachandra, Story Editor of the NY-based international journal Parabola, features Prince Duryodhana's perspective on the thrilling events in The Mahabarata. Isaiah diLorenzo, a St. Louis-based Shakespearan actor, will play Prince Duryodhana. Thomas Proctor, a St. Louis-based professional dancer and choreographer, will dance the part of Prince Bhima, one of the Pandava princes from the epic. ** Friday and Saturday Performances are at 7 p.m. Sunday Matinee is at 3 p.m.** ** Friday and Saturday shows are the same, while Sunday is a Family Matinee where nearly the whole company of Dances of India performs, from intermediate students to adults. Sanjay Shantaram and Kiran Rajagopalan will *not* be performing.** Dances of India is a Nonprofit 501 (c)3 organization. Items Not Allowed
